Too many times in industry, our actual operating methods aren't written down anywhere. Older, experienced operators develop skills and familiarity with their equipment and jobs, and their knowledge is passed down through word of mouth, or lost entirely when they leave the company. This process of tribal knowledge is great for job security but not so great for efficiency and productivity.

That's why it is vital for a world class training program to have a uniform, structured approach to developing training materials, one that includes capturing this "tribal knowledge" into a formal lesson plan.
